For Volunteers

Ready to Volunteer?

Volunteering in Calgary

Amazing — Calgary is stronger because of people like you. Volunteering is one of the most meaningful ways to connect with community, support causes you care about, develop new skills, and create positive change.

Volunteer opportunities exist across countless causes and communities — from mentoring youth and supporting newcomers to helping at events, advocating for social change, caring for the environment, and strengthening neighbourhoods.

Volunteering in Calgary

Formal Volunteering

Formal volunteering happens through nonprofits, charities, schools, community organizations, and grassroots initiatives. Volunteers contribute their time and skills without financial compensation to support the community.

Informal Volunteering

Informal volunteering includes everyday acts of kindness and community care — helping neighbours, supporting friends, mentoring others, or stepping up when someone needs support. Both forms of volunteering help build stronger, more connected communities.

Inclusive Volunteering

Volunteer Calgary believes volunteerism should be accessible, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone.

We encourage organizations and volunteers to help create environments where people of all backgrounds, identities, lived experiences, and abilities feel valued and supported.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Ask yourself:

What causes matter most to you?

What skills do you want to use or develop?

How much time can you commit?

Do you prefer remote or in-person volunteering?

Are you looking for one-time or ongoing opportunities?
